Focusing on
Inclusion
I hope that everyone had a wonderful time at the HRPA Annual
Conference & Trade Show at the beginning of February! If you
attended, I hope that you got as much out of the conference as
you could. One of my personal highlights was learning about
the HeForShe movement from keynote speakers Kelly Joscelyne
and Elizabeth Nyamayaro. It was also so nice to connect with
readers of HR Professional and get your feedback on the magazine
and its new digital format.
As part of that feedback, many members indicated that they still
want to be able to read the magazine in its actual magazine format
(as opposed to the articles on the website in a blog format) on
their desktop. Due to your requests, we are reintroducing the digital
flipbook version of HR Professional. You can now access the
magazine through the HR Professional app for tablets and smartphones,
or, if you prefer, you can flip through using your computer.
Thank you for telling us how you want your HR Professional!
The cover story of this issue of the magazine stems from a conversation
I had at #HRPA2017. In visiting the Great Place to
Work® Canada booth, I spoke to Jose Tolovi Neto (who sits on the
editorial advisory board for HR Professional), and we discussed diversity
and inclusion. Jose mentioned that while many companies
focus on diversity, they miss the next step of true inclusion. Great
Place to Work recently released a new guide for employers, Beyond
Diversity: An LGBT Best Practice Guide for Employers. Read about
the guide and what it means to be a truly inclusive workplace for
the LGBT community, starting on page 16.
I hope that you enjoy the March issue of HR Professional and
that the reintroduced digital flipbook edition makes it easier for
you to access the magazine. We’ll be back in April with an issue focusing
on mental health!
Happy reading,
Jill Harris
