Is Your Money
Talking?
What makes an employee value their job and come to
work for your company each and every day? This is
a question that HR professionals should be asking
themselves often. A major factor in overall employ-ee
satisfaction is undoubtedly total compensation – but what are
modern employees really looking for? Is money the main moti-vator?
Writer Melissa Campeau spoke to a number of leading
Canadian compensation experts to find out more about current
compensation trends. Her article starts on page 18.
The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) has
also been investigating the progress made so far when it comes to
the gender pay gap. Read Liz Bernier’s article with the findings,
starting on page 22.
Other finance-related articles that you may find interesting:
how to put the benefit back into drug plans and why employ-ers
need to embrace change as drug spending increases, written
by Helen Stevenson (the former Assistant Deputy Minister of
Health and Executive Officer, who oversaw Ontario’s $4 billion
drug program); and an article by Corinne MacMillan about how
blockchain speeds up the insurance process.
We’re also fresh off the heels of the HRPA 2018 Annual
Conference & Trade Show, and I hope that you were able to attend
and get the most out of the event. I, for one, am already looking
forward to next year. I hope that we got the chance to meet and
chat about your thoughts about HR Professional magazine. While
the new digital format has taken some getting used to for some
readers, we’re over 3,500 downloads on the HR Professional mo-bile
app, with thousands more views on the digital editions on
HRProfessionalNow.ca. As always, I’d love for you to send me an
email any time with your feedback – just click on my name below.
We’ll be back in March, focusing on the new world of employee
engagement and the competitive landscape around employee rec-ognition
and perks.
Happy reading,
Jill Harris n
