leadership matters
some significant progress; as awareness
increases, employers’ duty to inquire is en-forced
more often, and our own partner,
the Great West Life Centre for Mental
Health in the Workplace, celebrated their
10-year anniversary.
We have also seen an increased focus
on diversity and inclusion, and we’ve writ-ten
in these pages about the importance of
shifting from surface-level diversity to a
focus on what true inclusion in the work-place
looks like.
We heard this July in a special exclu-sive
with Dave Ulrich about the challenges
facing senior HR leadership in a world of
constant disruption, and the increasingly
strategic role the profession must continue
to evolve toward. We also took a deep dive
into emerging issues in the legal landscape
in our special HR Law issue in October.
However, one of the most overarch-ing
trends that we continue to write
about is HR’s contribution in the chang-ing
world of work. The advent of artificial
intelligence, robotics and automation has
reached critical mass, and HR is facing
the unprecedented challenge of manag-ing
a workforce that isn’t necessarily just
human anymore. At HRPA, we’re very
excited to take a comprehensive look at
these emerging issues in our special con-ference
issue, and at the Annual HRPA
Conference itself this January 31 through
February 2, 2018.
We hope to see you there – but in the
meantime, we hope you enjoy this issue’s
examination of this year’s most leading-edge
HR trends, and how they are likely
to impact you going forward. n
Happy holidays,
